The Earl Lovelace 70th Birthday Conference & Celebrations is hosted by the Faculty of Humanities and Education, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, bhpbilliton, Trinidad & Tobago, Matura to Matelot, Best Village, Friends of Lovelace, and the City of Port of Spain.
Lovelace’s Jestina’s Calypso- Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th July
The Players’ Workshop will deliver an entertaining performance of Earl Lovelace’s Jestina’s Calypso on Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th July from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Learning Resource Centre, UWI.
Earl Lovelace 70th Birthday Conference- Wednesday 13th July
A 70th Birthday Conference held in honour of Earl Lovelace’s birthday on Wednesday 13th July will take place at the Learning Resource Centre, UWI St. Augustine from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Prof. Gordon Rohlehr of the Department of Liberal Arts, UWI, St. Augustine, will deliver the keynote address at the Conference. International presenters include Prof. Barbara Temple-Thurston of Pacific Lutheran University, Washington State and Prof. Sandra Paquet of the University of Miami. Regional presenters include Prof. Carolyn Cooper of UWI, Mona Campus, Prof. Mark Mc Watt of UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Prof. Emeritus Kenneth Ramchand and Ms. Merle Hodge of UWI, St. Augustine Campus.
Lovelace Writing Route- Friday 15th July
Join the Earl Lovelace Writing Route - a tour through Toco and Matura with readings from his work. Call 662-2002 ext. 2030 or 2032 to reserve your space today! The Writing Route starts from the U.W.I. Learning Resource Centre at 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 15, and ends that evening with a cultural extravanganza in Matura, the place where Lovelace wrote many of his novels.
